ARTISTIC VISION
I am a movement and dance artist based in Scotland. I work with somatic movement improvisation, as a way to devise, create and perform. To aid my research I employ sensory stimulus for inspiration; textures, smells, colours, shapes, sounds, silence, breath.
A big part of my practise is storytelling verbal and physical. I work with text, vocalization and singing, blending movement with physical theatre, sometimes humour, and I experiment with the use of props.
I like to question the space where I find myself in, and the space where a performance takes place. Through my work I experiment and examine the relationship between performer and audience and how that relationship can shift throughout a performance.
I am interested in mythology and folklore and a lot of my work deals with these themes, creating links to our current ecology and society and understanding better the ways we do things and why. I draw a lot of inspiration from my Greek heritage.
I create work that promotes dance ecology and environmental awareness. Work that sheds light to the natural world, its complex mechanisms and networks. I want to promote empathy towards the environment and urge people to make beneficial changes in their lives to aid the restoration of natural balance. Being outdoors brings me immense joy, and choreographing in outdoor green spaces is my way of bringing people in touch with the wonders of observation and discovery of the intricate world that surrounds us.
Art for me is communication and that is what I try to promote through my work; how to bring people together, how to share the space around us, how to experience as a collective, how to form a community.
